The rise of neon lighting

Neon lighting was invented by accident in 1902 by Frenchman Georges Claude. After many researches and experiments, neon lighting was presented to the general public in 1910. After Georges Claude obtained the patent, production was started. In 1923, neon lighting was first used in America as an advertising medium by the car dealer Packard. Soon it was impossible to imagine the streets without neon lighting.

The neon glass for neon lighting is always made by hand. Glass blowing is a real craft which requires a lot of knowledge and experience. The glass tubes are heated and then bent into the desired shape. Because neon glass is handmade almost all shapes are possible and every neon light is unique. It is therefore possible that the neon lighting differs slightly from the picture.
